Research Interests

As temperature has major effects on plant growth and development and is a key determinant of species distribution and crop yields, I am interested in how plants sense temperature and how this information is integrated into development. My PhD project will aim to identify, and subsequently characterise, genes involved in temperature perception in Arabidopsis. To do this I will be working alongside Manoj and Seong on a forward genetic screen of an EMS mutagenised population using an ambient temperature responsive HSP70::LUC reporter. Lines showing aberrant HSP70::LUC expression, and therefore presumed to have aberrant temperature perception, at a range of ambient temperatures will be selected and the causative mutations mapped. Genes identified through this screen will then be characterised and their role in temperature perception investigated.
