Explore the Wonders of Plant Science at Big Biology Day – Saturday 11 October

The Sainsbury Laboratory Cambridge University will be bringing the fascinating world of plant science to life at this year’s Big Biology Day, held at Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge on Saturday 11 October, 10am-4pm.

Visitors of all ages can enjoy hands-on activities including making seed necklaces, matching seeds to their plants, exploring how microscopes reveal spectacular plant structures and discovering how hexagon-shaped cells affect plant strength. You’ll also get to explore the hidden UV patterns on petals that are invisible to us, but clearly seen by bees!

We’re delighted to be joined by the Gatsby Plant Science Education Programme (GPSEP), who will be showcasing a range of biology careers and providing valuable resources for teachers. The Cambridge University Botanic Garden Learning Team will also be there, focusing on pollen with an opportunity to see the amazing diversity of pollen under a microscope, pollen syndromes and a chance to pollinate a giant flower!

Big Biology Day is a free event organised by Cambridge University biologists, featuring over 40 exhibitors from across Cambridge and beyond. It’s a fantastic opportunity to explore the diversity of biology through engaging, educational activities. No booking required.
