About
As Events and Outreach Assistant at the Sainsbury Laboratory, I work on the planning and delivery of a wide range of events. My role includes hosting visiting academics and managing logistics for our external seminar series, collaborating with external organisations when we act as a host venue, and designing and facilitating public outreach activities. I am also responsible for writing the departmental newsletter, creating posters and advertisements for events, and updating the Events, Outreach and Communications intranet site.
I’m particularly enthusiastic about engaging people from all backgrounds with science and research. I have a Master’s degree in Physics and Astronomy and have a broad range of experience in science communication, including working as a secondary school science teacher and a museum explainer. These roles have shown me just how important and influential public engagement can be! At SLCU, I have had the privilege to work with researchers to plan and deliver some incredible engagement activities, including for the Chelsea Flower Show, Science Museum Lates and the Cambridge Festival.
I’m passionate about making the events we plan and host accessible. As part of the neuroinclusion working group within the EDI committee, I created a guide to support neuroinclusive event planning, helping to ensure that everyone feels able to participate.
