About
Dan is head of the Gatsby Plant Science Education Programme (GPSEP), a leading UK plant science engagement and education project, based jointly between the Sainsbury Laboratory and Cambridge University Botanic Garden. Dan's role is focused on the strategic development and innovation of GPSEP projects, supporting the pipeline of future plant scientists through formal plant science education and engagement interventions.
Dan and his team are proactive and responsive to government policy in biosciences and education, working to improve the teaching, learning and engagement of the next generation with plant science. This includes working with curriculum designers, school teachers, students and universities across the UK. Dan's team lead the highly successful Science and Plants for Schools project, the Gatsby Plant Science Summer School and the Plant Science Futures initiative among other initiatives to boost interest in plant science.
With a degree in Botany, Dan’s career path has included working at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew; the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Cambridge; the Institute of Education, University College London and the former Science Learning Centre, London.
